Pushkin Square
A magnificent Energetic place framed by century-old Plane trees.
Pushkin Square is the most beautiful square in Krasnodar and a popular pedestrian zone located along Krasnaya Street on the segment between Pushkin and Sovetskaya Streets. It is rich in sights and is a favorite place for walking among the residents of the city.
Location:
It is located a little south of the center of Krasnodar, not far from the Municipal Medical Institute of Higher Nursing Education, the Ignatov family Apartment Museum, the Cascade Fountain of the ZSK, Catherine Square and the Alexander Nevsky Wax Cathedral. It is dissected by the pedestrian Krasnaya Street.
Sights of Pushkin Square
On Pushkin Square, travelers will see several interesting sights forming its architectural ensemble at once:
Krasnodar Art Museum named after F.A. Kovalenko. The oldest in the Caucasus: it opened in 1904. There are over 13,000 valuable items on display here: works of DPI, paintings, graphics, sculptures, icons, bookplates and Japanese woodcuts. The founder of the museum is Fedor Akimovich Kovalenko, collector;
Krasnodar Regional Universal Scientific Library named after A.S. Pushkin. One of the largest in Krasnodar. The opening of the library, which took place in 1900, was timed to the centenary of Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin. Today, more than 1 million books and manuscripts are stored within its walls. Among them are particularly valuable and rare specimens;
Central Concert Hall (Kuban Cossack Choir). A platform for holding show programs, performances, film screenings, performances of artists, ensembles, seminars and business events. It has two halls – small (for 300) and large (for 1054 people);
Monument to A.S. Pushkin. It was established in 1999 – in honor of the poet's 200th birthday. Its authors are architect V. Karpychev and sculptor V. Zhdanov. Interestingly, the pose of the statue is surprisingly similar to the one in which the Governor-General of Eastern Siberia Nikolai Nikolaevich Muravyov-Amursky is depicted on the monument in Khabarovsk.
Adjacent to Pushkin Square is the historic Catherine Square, recognized in 2013 as one of the most important sights of Russia. This is a picturesque, green recreation area, decorated with an elegant monument to Catherine the Great. Nearby are the bust of I.E. Singing fountain on Theater Square
The main city square is located just 500 meters from the Atmospheric8.am .
This is a great place to relax for the whole family. Children will be delighted!
Singing fountains in Krasnodar are a favorite attraction of citizens and, of course, guests of the city. A beautiful dance of water jets, accompanied by sophisticated lighting and a musical series, is a whole show, invariably gathering crowds of spectators around them.
Location:
The fountain is located on the Theater Square (capacity is 50,000 people) . It is considered the business and cultural center of the Kuban capital: there are the City Hall, the Academic Drama Theater named after M. Gorky, the famous Krasnodar "clock building", a concert hall, many office premises, hotels and entertainment centers of Krasnaya Street.
History and features of the Fountain:
In the city of Krasnodar, Singing fountains became a gift for the City Day in 2011.
The attraction has impressive parameters:
area – 1225 sq. m;
number of nozzles – 377 pcs.;
maximum height – 27 m, this is an approximate "growth" of a nine–storey house;
the number of LED lights - 640 pcs.
On weekends and on Friday, at 20:30, the music and light show begins. First, the backlight lights up. Then the music turns on, which comes from speakers dispersed over the area in different parts. Sometimes they are classical pieces, other times they play modern melodies. The jets begin to change their trajectory in time. It turns out a "water dance", which is also accompanied by light changes. The program lasts 2.5 hours.
The fountain's operation is provided by a special station hidden at a depth of 4 m. It does not have a bowl, it is planar in type, otherwise called "dry", that is, it does not betray its presence in any way and hits directly from the ground. Such a design solution ensures the expansion of useful space on the square: in the off state, it does not interfere with the movement of passers-by, various mass and entertainment events. Water is supplied by 57 pumps, and its "dance" and "drawing" creates more than 400 impressive visual effects. Due to its considerable size, the fountain on Teatralnaya Square received the title of the largest in the entire southern part of Russia and one of the largest in Europe. According to local residents and travelers, the bright attraction has become a real decoration of Krasnodar and a point of attraction for vacationers of all ages. It is difficult to remain indifferent to the magnificent light and music performance and the scale of what is happening. Even coming here for a day, tourists tend to see a truly amazing object.
With the beginning of the show program, the speakers turn on: the "dance" takes place under the famous classical works. The jets are illuminated both separately and all together, and the waterproof lights flicker to the beat of the sounding melody. Everything looks impressive and majestic – thanks to several modes of interaction between light and water. -
Krasnaya Street / Alexandrovsky Boulevard
Krasnaya Street - The Central city street is also on the list of places that you definitely need to see in Krasnodar. Unlike the name of the city, it has nothing to do with communism. The name appeared back in 1888. There are two versions of the origin of the name: the street was christened either for its beauty, or for the abundance of red brick buildings standing on it. On holidays, part of the street is blocked, turning it into a pedestrian zone.
The central street in Krasnodar and the main tourist route for the first acquaintance with the sights of the city. Its length is about 5 km: it starts from Postovaya Street— opposite the Military Cathedral and stretches to Officer Street— ends behind the Aurora cinema. A wide walking boulevard (Alexandrovsky) on Krasnaya Street begins at the intersection with Budyonny Street — from the monument to the 200th anniversary of the Kuban Cossacks and continues to the Aurora is about 2.5km.Administrative offices, theaters, cinemas, museums are concentrated on Krasnaya Street, there are many shops and restaurants, monuments and historical buildings.

Church of the Great Martyr George the Victorious
Creation history
The Temple of the Great Martyr George the Victorious, striking with its beauty and divine majesty, in the city of Krasnodar is located on Sedina Street. The temple has its own unique rich history, dating back to the distant 891.
According to legend, the ancient Greeks, sailing to the shores of the Crimea, were caught in a severe storm. After long prayers addressed to the Great Martyr George the Victorious, the storm suddenly stopped, and the sailors were saved. In gratitude, the Greeks founded the Balaklava Monastery of St. George near the place of their salvation.
The monastery had to go through a lot from earthquakes and looting of nomads to being held captive during the Crimean campaign.
St. George's Church in Krasnodar was conceived for construction in 1891. Its construction was timed to coincide with the millennial anniversary of the Crimean St. George Monastery in Balaklava. The Holy monastery was conceived as a courtyard for pilgrims going to the Balaklava St. George Monastery. The first stone of the future St. George's Church was laid on June 18, 1895.
The temple was built for 8 years — funds for the construction were collected in the form of donations. Architect Malgerbe took part in the construction (he designedthe main cathedral of the city— named after the Holy Great Martyr Catherine), but the names of the authors of the project have not been preserved in city documents. The church was consecrated on November 30, 1903.Throughout the XX century, the temple was not closed, services were held regularly, religious holidays were celebrated. One unusual event is associated with this fact: in 1942, St. George the Victorious appeared to the parishioners during the service. He rode around the temple on a horse three times and said that the church would never close. In recent history, St. George's Church has been restored. Now it is one of the most important holy monasteries of the city.
Architecture and shrines
At the present time, the Church of the Great Martyr George the Victorious in Krasnodar has been awarded the status of an architectural monument. The building is built in the Byzantine style. The building is crowned with 11 domes: 5 in the central part, 4 on the sides of the cathedral, one above the entrance and one above the bell tower. The domes of the traditional "bulbous" shape are painted in blue — according to the idea, they symbolize the purity and purity of the sky. The church is built of red brick — the combination with blue domes is unusual, but, on the other hand, St. George's Church stands out against the background of buildings and is easily recognized as one of the symbols of the city.
Inside The Church of the Great Martyr George the Victorious has 3 chapels: the central one is dedicated to St. George the Victorious, the southern one is dedicated to the "Fedorovskaya" Icon of the Mother of God, the northern one is dedicated to St. Mary of Egypt and Markella.
A few years ago, a large-scale restoration was carried out in the temple. Among the works are the renovation of the iconostasis and the new painting of the temple walls. Under the main dome of the temple, a two-tiered alarm clock was suspended. An unusual look is given to it by small icons installed between the candles of the lamps.
St. George's Church houses 2 arks with the relics of more than 7 dozen saints (the full list of relics is onthe website of St. George's Church in Krasnodar). The most important shrines are 2 icons with fragments of the relics of the Great Martyr George the Victorious. In 2012, the shrines of the temple were replenished with two important artifacts: the image of St. Spyridon of Triminfoot and a shoe with the feet of the same saint. The artifacts were brought from Greece.
LocationThe Church of the Great Martyr George the Victorious
